Biography

Mr. Borges  is the principle of Borges Law and has practices in the area of patents, trade-marks, industrial designs and copyright since 1989.  He is a registered patent and trademark agent in Canada and the United States.

Mr. Borges obtained his LL.B. degree from the University of Toronto Law school in Toronto, Ontario in 1987 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1989.

Mr. Borges obtained his Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree from the University of Toronto in 1984.  While at the University of Toronto he also studied biochemistry and conducted research relating to cell membrane activity.  He received several scholarships, including the Pounder Award for Astronomy, the Award of Merit in the Field of Chemistry, a bursary award in Chemistry and he appeared on the Dean's honor roll for two consecutive years.

Mr. Borges worked as an intellectual property lawyer with a Toronto law firm for several years.  In 1995, he became the in-house intellectual property counsel and corporate secretary for Ontario Hydro Technologies, which was one of North America's largest technology companies in the field of electric power.  In 1998, he became the in-house intellectual property counsel for Husky Injection Molding systems, one of the world's largest manufacturers of plastic injection moulding machines.

Mr. Borges has extensive patent experience.  He has written and prosecuted patents in the fields of plastics, metallurgy, physics, biochemistry, chemistry, mechanics, computer software, transportation, lasers, industrial processing, construction, electronics, nuclear energy, medical technology and electric power.

Mr. Borges has also been actively involved in the preparation and prosecution of trademark applications and in the conduct of trademark oppositions and trademark litigation.

Mr. Borges is also an avid public speaker and has given intellectual property seminars to various groups including trade-associations, private corporations, public corporations and educational institutions.
